Page-Turners and Problem-Solvers: Integrating STEAM and Literacy in the Elementary Classroom is a practitioner-focused text that presents an interdisciplinary approach to incorporating STEAM concepts in the elementary classroom. The authors (Shawn O’Neill, Tori Cameron, & Susan Flis) are all currently university professors with many years of classroom teaching experience. Their book emerged from their passion for STEAM education and their understanding that the time constraints on teachers often result in the elimination of these critical components. This text is informed by three frameworks: Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, & Student Agency. Each framework is connected to the others and are all based on the authors’ belief in the need for student-centered learning environments where all students feel safe, supported, and respected.
